For thousands of years, no man could run one mile under 4 minutes. Studies were made and scientific explanation given as to why man cannot run so fast. Some of the reasons given were:
i. Man has only two legs and most animals have four and therefore we cannot run that fast.
ii. Man has too much body fat when compared to most animals.
iii. Man run upright and wind resistance make it impossible to run that fast.
iv. The leg bones and muscles of man are not built to run so fast.
On the 6th May 1954, Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile with the time of 3 minutes 59.4 seconds. The next year 37 others also broke the 4-minute mile.
For hundreds of years, no man can run one mile under 4 minutes. How come after Roger Bannister broke the record, 37 others also did it the following year? The reason is one man showed it can be done and others believe.
On July 7th 1999, Hicham El Guerrouj, a 24-year-old Moroccan, smash the mile in 3 minutes 43.13 seconds in Rome. He beat Roger Bannister's time by 16.27 seconds. Since a mile is equal to 1609 meters, Hicham El Guerrouj ran at a speed of 7.211 meters per second. Beating Roger Bannister by 16.27 seconds means beating him by 117.32 meters.
Leaders must all work hard and do well so that downlines can see and belief. This is a responsibility not an option. You must be the Roger Bannister of your organization. But I also want leaders to sit back, feel and think the price Mr. Bannister paid to break that record. Eddy Chai.
